Biography

With 30 years experience in both real estate and litigation, Al LaSorte's expertise ranges from broad commercial disputes to niche practices in title insurance litigation and foreclosure of large commercial loans.  His experience as lead counsel in over one hundred jury and non-jury trials and his knowledge of substantive real estate law afford him a unique vantage point from which to counsel his clients, be they lending institutions, business or real property owners, or title insurers.  Mr. LaSorte practices in West Palm Beach, where he is a partner in the Business Litigation Department.  He is Florida Bar Board Certified in both Civil Trial Law and Business Litigation. 

Experience

Mr. LaSorte counsels lenders, businesses, property owners and title insurers throughout the state on commercial disputes, real estate litigation, foreclosure and title insurance matters.  He represents clients concerning large, complex commercial foreclosure actions, title encumbrances and other legal disputes both in and out of court. He is one of few Florida litigators with a focus on real estate title and encumbrance issues.

Professional Activities

For the past eight years, Mr. LaSorte has been selected by the Florida Bar to present the mortgage foreclosure seminar at the Florida Bar Real Estate Certification Review Course.  In addition, he frequently speaks at seminars across the state on advanced topics concerning real estate litigation, including the Attorneys Title Fund Assembly in Orlando and the University of Miami's Annual Ralph E. Boyer Institute on Real Property Law.  Mr. LaSorte is a member of the Palm Beach County Bar Association and the Florida Land Title Association. He is also a member and the former chair of both the Florida Bar Business Litigation Certification Committee, and the 15th Judicial Circuit Professionalism Council.

In addition to his inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America®, Florida Trend's Florida Legal Elite and Florida Super Lawyers, Mr. LaSorte is a Fellow in Litigation Counsel of America, an invitation-only trial lawyer honorary society, limited to less than one-half of 1% of American lawyers.  Fellows are selected and invited into Fellowship after being evaluated on effectiveness and accomplishment in litigation and trial work, along with ethical reputation.

Community Involvement

Mr. LaSorte has held leadership positions with various community organizations for many years.  He currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Friends of the West Palm Beach Public Library, which supports the new 83,000 s.f. public library in downtown West Palm Beach.  An avid amateur astronomer, Mr. LaSorte's library lectures on "Galileo" have been among the library's best attended events.  
 
Two years ago, Mr. LaSorte founded, and he continues to chair, the American Heart Association's annual Palm Beach County "Lawyers Have Heart" 5K Run which takes place each fall along the West Palm Beach waterfront.  He also sits on the Executive Cabinet for the American Heart Association's annual Start! Heart Walk, in which more than 12,000 walkers participate each year.
