Benjamin E. Wilson is an attorney in the Real Estate Department of Shutts & Bowen’s Miami office, where he concentrates his practice in the areas of real estate transactions, real estate development and finance, commercial leasing, condominiums, affordable housing, planned unit developments, mixed-use developments, and distressed property acquisitions, loan work-outs, and foreclosures.
Originally from Paducah, Kentucky, Mr. Wilson received his Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Engineering from Murray State University in May, 1999, where he was awarded the prestigious Outstanding Senior Man Award and named Valedictorian of his graduating class. In May, 2003, Mr. Wilson received his law degree with honors from the University of Louisville School of Law, where he served as President of the Moot Court Board and was the co-recipient of the award for Best Appellee Brief at the 2003 National Tax Law Moot Court Competition. After finishing law school, Mr. Wilson left the bluegrass of Kentucky for the sunny beaches of Miami and received his Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Real Property Development from the University of Miami School of Law in May, 2004, where he received extensive experience in the areas of real estate law and real estate development. Afterward, Mr. Wilson worked as attorney in the Real Estate Department of a long-standing, regional South Florida law firm before returning to Miami and joining Shutts & Bowen LLP in April, 2007.
Since moving to South Florida, Mr. Wilson has been a very active member of the community. Presently, Mr. Wilson serves as Director of the Dade County Bar Young Lawyers Association’s eMentoring Program, receiving the Mentor of the Year Award for the 2004-2005 school year. As part of the eMentoring Program, Mr. Wilson is also a frequent lecturer at area high schools. In addition, Mr. Wilson is a member of the Friends of the New World Symphony in Miami Beach and event coordinator for PetNet, the young professionals division of the Humane Society of Greater Miami. Further, Mr. Wilson is a member of the First Baptist Church of Fort Lauderdale and has been actively involved in the Church's Mens Community Softball League since 2004 and recently participated on a summer mission trip to Nicaragua in which members of the church coordinated a baseball camp for many of the youth of Nejapa, Nicaragua.
