Biography

Ethan Wasserman is an attorney in Shutts & Bowen's Miami office, where he is a member of the Real Estate and Land Use Practice Groups. 

Mr. Wasserman’s practice focuses primarily on land use and real estate development matters.  Mr. Wasserman regularly appears before local government boards on matters involving code compliance, historic preservation, zoning, permitting and development matters, including road closures, special permits, platting, site plan approvals, variances, etc.  Mr. Wasserman also advises his clients on development opportunities for raw or developed land by analyzing the applicable development regulations and existing entitlements or restrictions of record, if any.

Mr. Wasserman also assists his clients with legal issues involving certain operational components of their businesses, including state, county and municipal licensing (e.g. certificates of use, business tax receipts and occupational licenses) and code enforcement matters (e.g. mitigating fees resulting from violations and appearing before special masters). 

In the area of real estate transactions, Mr. Wasserman works with banks and other lending institutions, as well as developers and property owners.  Mr. Wasserman has experience in property acquisitions, leases, loan workouts and loan sales.  Mr. Wasserman also assists his clients in performing title and related due diligence on transactions involving the transfer of real property.

While in law school, Mr. Wasserman was a summer clerk to the Honorable A. Jay Cristol, United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida. In addition, he was a member of the University of Miami Corporate and Professional Responsibility Program, a division of the Center for Ethics and Public Service, where he co-presented a CLE program at Legal Services of Greater Miami.
