Frank A. Zacherl is a partner in the Litigation Department of Shutts & Bowen's Miami office and he is a member of the firm’s Insurance Practice Group. He also chairs the firm’s class action practice group. Mr. Zacherl has a long track record of success in handling complex litigation matters. With more than 200 attorneys statewide at Shutts & Bowen, Mr. Zacherl can properly staff his cases to ensure capable and economical handling of the litigation. Moreover, his firm’s state of the art technology allows him to achieve additional economies of scale, with the ultimate aim of obtaining the best possible results for his clients.
Mr. Zacherl concentrates his practice in complex civil litigation, with an emphasis on class action defense and commercial litigation. His practice areas include insurance litigation, professional malpractice litigation, and commercial litigation. Mr. Zacherl serves on the Civil Litigation Committee of the Miami-Dade County Bar Association, and he is a former Assistant State Attorney for the 11th Judicial Circuit in Miami, Florida. He is admitted to practice before the Florida Bar, the United States District Court for the Southern, Middle and Northern Districts of Florida and the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals.
Mr. Zacherl has participated in over 20 jury trials to verdict, and scores of bench trials. He has tried the issue of class certification in more than ten (10) cases, and has coordinated complex insurance litigation (including class actions) on a state and national level for major automobile insurance carriers. Mr. Zacherl is a frequent speaker on the topics of class action litigation and insurance litigation.
Mr. Zacherl is currently actively defending many class actions in state and federal courts throughout Florida, some of which are seeking national certification and some of which are seeking statewide certification. In his career, Mr. Zacherl has also handled scores of national and single state class actions in both state and federal courts. Mr. Zacherl has obtained early dismissal of these cases in many instances. Mr. Zacherl also provides consultation and representation to insurers regarding claims handling issues, and he is frequently consulted on matters presenting significant potential exposure to insurers.
Mr. Zacherl graduated from George Washington University National Law Center in 1990. He received his B.A. in English and Business Administration with a National Merit Scholarship from the University of Notre Dame in 1987.
