Nicole Deese Newlon is a partner in Shutts & Bowen's Tampa office where she practices in the firm's Litigation Department. Ms. Newlon's practice is focused on two primary areas: commercial litigation and securities litigation. Ms. Newlon also has experience in white collar criminal defense. Ms. Newlon has handled grand jury and corporate internal investigations, assisted in the development of corporate compliance and ethics programs, and coordinated responses to subpoenas from governmental and investigative bodies. Additionally, Ms. Newlon has defended matters involving health care fraud, environmental crimes, and a significant qui tam action, as well as representing brokerage firms, financial institutions, corporations, and their associated persons in arbitration and litigation matters, administrative investigations, and proceedings before state and federal regulatory agencies and self-regulatory organizations.
Ms. Newlon served as a Senior Compliance Advisor at a national brokerage firm before joining Shutts & Bowen. She is frequently called upon to comment on a variety of legal issues, having recently appeared on several CNBC programs.
In law school, Ms. Newlon concentrated in areas that would become important to her clients. She received a Certificate of Concentration in Advocacy, graduated from Stetson's Honors Program and was a member of the Stetson Trial Team. She was a regional winner in the competition sponsored by the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, a semi-finalist in the National Trial Competition and a Finalist in the Chester Bedell competition. Additionally, she was a member of the Moot Court Board, where she was a finalist and best oralist in both the Robert Orseck Competition and National Tax Moot Court Competition. Ms. Newlon also was a member of the Stetson Law Review and received the Stanley Milledge award and the Victor O. Wehle Award for Trial Advocacy. She was a member of the Order of Barristers and was on the National Dean's List.
Ms. Newlon was named by Florida Super Lawyers in the area of Commercial/Business Litigation in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
