
Rosemarie N. Schadae
An international lawyer with more than 30 years of experience, Rosemarie N. Schadae helps broaden Shutts & Bowen's reach in the global market. With her understanding of the legal, economic and political systems of Europe, she serves as a resource to other lawyers in the firm and as a trusted counselor to international clients. She advises clients, including businesses and individual families, in taxation, wealth planning and commercial law. Ms. Schadae is Managing Director of the Amsterdam office and is Of Counsel to the firm.
Experience
With an LL.M. in taxation and international business experience, Ms. Schadae counsels clients how to manage their interests for optimum tax, business and personal benefits. She is an advisor to corporations and families of high net worth, coordinating their diverse multinational interests in real estate, financial investments and general business. She also handles family law matters, including trust and estate planning.
Working with other lawyers in the firm, Ms. Schadae helps bridge the differences between U.S. common law and European civil law. She acts as an in-firm liaison and advisor on European legal matters, while coordinating transactions or providing support. In her work with litigators, for example, she helps with discovery issues, arbitration or mediation matters and service on foreign nationals. In other areas, she advises on transactions and international divorce and child custody cases.
Ms. Schadae coordinates multi-lawyer transactions that cross borders. She handles a wide variety of such deals for clients and in support of other lawyers at the firm.
Professional Affiliations
In addition to being a member of the Florida and American Bar Associations, Ms. Schadae is a member of the International Bar Association, International Fiscal Association, American Tax Institute in Europe, and American Chamber of Commerce in the Netherlands.
Ms. Schadae has spoken at numerous seminars in the United States and Europe. She served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Miami Law School and lectured at the Tax Academy of the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation in Amsterdam. Her published work includes a "Treaty Developments" feature, International Tax Journal (Panel Publishers) and "The Florida Probate Code," 32 University of Miami Law Review (1978).
Background
Ms. Schadae joined Shutts & Bowen in Miami in 1979. She received her J.D. in 1978 and her LL.M. in taxation in 1979, both from the University of Miami. Fluent in Dutch, she currently resides in Walchwil, Switzerland.
