Biography

Real estate and financial businesses rely on Joseph (“Joe”) Bolton’s 30 years of experience to carry out sophisticated transactions. An attorney who is well-established in the South Florida market, he has used his skills in real estate, transactional and banking law to represent clients since 1976.  He is Shutts & Bowen's firm-wide Managing Partner and a member of the firm’s Executive Committee.

Real Estate

As a real estate specialist who has been certified by The Florida Bar Board since 1991, Mr. Bolton advises clients in a broad range of real estate issues. This includes structuring and negotiating acquisitions, sales, financing and leasing of commercial properties. He works with developers, property owners and real estate brokers, whether they are entering the South Florida market or expanding their operations in the area.  Also an expert witness in real estate law, Mr. Bolton appears at trials in state and federal courts.

Banking

His experience in banking and large financing projects has allowed him to work with regional and national clients. This involves asset-based loans, including loans secured by real estate, inventory, equipment, receivables, and securities, as well as multi-state loan transactions. He has worked extensively on workouts of problem commercial loans on behalf of lending institutions.

Publications and Speaking Engagements

Mr. Bolton has spoken and written about various legal topics, including commercial lending, property liens, real estate titles and title insurance. He also speaks at Florida Bar-approved Continuing Legal Education programs. Recent engagements include:
