Biography

An accomplished litigator in both the public and private sectors, Sidney Calloway is a partner in the Government Law Practice Group of the Fort Lauderdale office. The strength of his work for municipalities, public agencies and government bodies has led to a prominent role at the state level, including his current position as Governor Jeb Bush’s appointee to the Florida Transportation Commission, where he presides as the commission’s elected secretary.  In 1998, he was also appointed by Governor Lawton Chiles to serve on the Commission on Legislative Reform of Judicial Administration.

Mr. Calloway’s diverse range of governmental and private sector clients count on his broad experience in governmental affairs, litigation, and dispute resolution. He focuses on complex civil matters including legislative and municipal redistricting, telecommunications, land use and zoning, labor and employment, community redevelopment and economic development.  Past governmental clients have included the Broward County Aviation Department, the School Board of Miami-Dade County, Broward County Supervisor of Elections, the City of Fort Lauderdale Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), and the Broward County Legislative Delegation. He represents the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce as its Vice-Chair and General Counsel.

Mr. Calloway is also a Florida Supreme Court certified circuit civil court mediator.

Affiliations

Mr. Calloway has a prominent role in various civic groups in South Florida as well. He is on the Board of Directors for the Urban League of Broward County and also serves the Fort Lauderdale NAACP, Legal Aid of Broward County, the Broward County Nuisance & Drug Abatement Board, the City of Fort Lauderdale Economic Development Advisory Board, and the Growth Management and Transportation Committees of the Broward League of Cities.  Mr. Calloway has served as president and executive board member of the T.J. Reddick Bar Association, Chair of a Florida Bar Grievance Committee for the 17th Judicial Circuit, is a current member of the Florida Bar Speakers Bureau, and is an adjunct professor at the University of Miami Law School’s Litigation Skills Department.
