Biography

Businesses involved in disputes have relied on Stephen Gillman’s 30 years of experience as a trial lawyer. During his years handling antitrust and fraud cases for the federal government, he spent a considerable amount of time in court. He continues to litigate cases as a partner at Shutts & Bowen, where he is Co-Chairman of the Litigation Practice Group in the firm's Miami office.

Mr. Gillman uses all measures to resolve disputes for his clients, including mediation, arbitration and trial in state or federal courts. He currently focuses on antitrust, banking and securities litigation. This work has included contract disputes, fraud, the Deceptive Trade Practices Act, the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO), and other issues.

Background

Mr. Gillman began his career as a trial attorney for the Antitrust Division of the United States Department of Justice. He then joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida, where he ultimately became Chief of the Fraud and Public Corruption Section for the Criminal Division. In this last position, Mr. Gillman oversaw investigations, indictments and prosecution of bank fraud and related offenses.
