John Dannecker, Florida Bar Board Certified in Construction Law, is a committed advocate for his clients. In addition to his expertise in construction trial work and contract drafting, Mr. Dannecker has litigated numerous complex business disputes, including troubled mergers and acquisitions, accounting malpractice, specific performance, liquidated damages, and noncompete agreements. Using his considerable trial experience and negotiating skills, he helps clients arrange contracts, build projects, repair structural defects and resolve disputes. He leads the Construction Litigation team in Shutts & Bowen's Orlando and Miami offices.
Mr. Dannecker has been consistently recognized by his clients and peers in such publications as Chambers & Partners, Best Lawyers in America and Florida's Legal Elite, which ranks him in the top 1.7% of attorneys statewide.
Experience
With construction as his central focus for nearly 20 years, Mr. Dannecker has developed a strong reputation based on his depth of knowledge and experience. This experience includes work for developers, contractors, property owners, hotels and others. Clients call on him to handle construction litigation, contract negotiation and defect and delay litigation. He also works on mold- and mildew-related disputes and has litigated numerous claims involving moisture intrusion, subsurface conditions and pipe failures. He counsels clients on professional malpractice, delays and road failures as well. In recognition of his work, he has recently been mentioned in Florida Super Lawyers for construction law.
Professional Activities
Mr. Dannecker is involved in various bar association activities, including The Florida Bar Commercial Litigation Section, the American Bar Association Construction Law Section and the Orange County Bar Association Construction Law Committee. He is a former Barrister in the Central Florida Chapter of the American Inns of Court, and has received an "AV," or top rating, from Martindale-Hubbell. Current memberships include, Associated General Contractors, Associated Builders & Contractors, and the National Association of Home Builders.
Mr. Dannecker shares his knowledge through frequent speaking engagements with trade groups and as an adjunct professor of business law at the University of Central Florida. He was a featured speaker at two events for the National Association of Credit Management: the 2003 Annual Credit Congress and the 2004 All-South Conference. He also spoke at the 2004 Windstorm Insurance Conference and at a construction law seminar in 2000. At two supplier trade group events, he presented "Selling to a Chapter 11 Debtor" and "Collecting on Bonded Jobs." He is a regular speaker at seminars presented by Lorman Education Services. Mr. Dannecker co-presented a Construction Law Roundtable for the Daily Business Review as well.
Throughout his career, Mr. Dannecker co-authored various articles on construction-related topics. They include: "Florida Construction Lien Law," "Owners' Protection Devices," "Construction Law and Contracts," "Construction Law 101: Introduction to Construction Lien Law," "Investigation of Construction Claims," "Legal Perspective of Design/Build Contracts," and "Legal Aspects of Mold Remediation and Standards." Other co-authored materials focus on mold and mildew litigation, and calculating and proving construction delay damages.
