Throughout a distinguished career serving the state of Florida, Bobby Brantley represented Floridians and their interests through effective government action. He was most recently the Lieutenant Governor of Florida and also served as a member of the Florida House of Representatives, Secretary of the Florida Department of Commerce and Secretary of The Florida Lottery. He now lends his extensive government experience to clients of Shutts & Bowen and represents their concerns before both houses of the legislature, Florida cabinet and state agencies. He is a governmental affairs consultant in the Tallahassee office.
Experience
Mr. Brantley has been recognized for his public service in many areas. During his term as Lt. Governor, he was appointed by President George Bush to advise the President and Congress on the economic and social needs of rural America. He was also honored by his peers, who elected him Chairman of the National Conference of Lt. Governors and received several awards during his years as the chief economic development officer and chief tourism officer of Florida. After the November 2006 elections, he also served as Co-Chairman for Attorney General Bill McCollum's transition team.
Governor Brantley is also well regarded for his strong advocacy on behalf of Floridians and gained a national reputation for his leadership on criminal justice and corrections issues. He was the first member of the Florida Legislature to support privatization of state prisons and was, in fact, featured twice on the television program "60 Minutes" for these efforts. He was also the inspiration for an award-winning television documentary, which he advised. The program, "Youth Behind Bars," chronicled the experiences of young felons in state prisons and was shown in high schools throughout Central Florida.
Background
Prior to joining Shutts & Bowen, Governor Brantley was president of Brantley & Associates, a consulting firm. He currently owns a successful small business with his wife. Together, they own Flying Colors Farm, where they raise, breed and show Warmblood/Thoroughbred Pinto Sport Horses.
Mr. Brantley joined the United States Marine Corps in 1968 and was honorably discharged in 1972.
