Update on Firm Attorneys and Events

We are pleased to share some recent events and news about our Shutts & Bowen attorneys who work on government related matters.

The Urban League of Broward County selected  our Partner, SIDNEY C. CALLOWAY, as the recipient of the 2007 Margaret Roach Humanitarian Award for inspiring change and demonstrating ongoing leadership in the advancement of social justice and race relations.  SIDNEY has been the point person in the creation of a Shutts Diversity Initiative that created a 2006-2007 professional development series aimed at minority law students and young professionals in South Florida.  SIDNEY also serves as a member (by Governor’s appointment) of the Florida Transportation Commission where he is Chair-elect.  Sidney also has been elected as the 2009 Chair of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce.

In July, GEORGE PLATT, was one of nine Shutts & Bowen attorneys named by London-based Chambers & Partners in their June, 2007 edition of “Chambers USA:  America’s Leading Business Lawyers.”  GEORGE, the managing partner of Shutts & Bowen’s Fort Lauderdale office, was listed by Chambers “as an outstanding and skilled strategist on the complex issues involved in corporate relations with governmental bodies.” 

Shutts & Bowen attorney ALEX HECKLER was the subject of a front-page profile in the June 21st edition of The Wall Street Journal.  The article focused on ALEX’S role as a major political fundraiser.

Shutts & Bowen partner ANITRA LANCZI served as the 2007 Chair of the Broward County Diversity Advisory Council and was recently named as a Board member to Seafarer’s House, a non-profit agency that provides services to crew members who call on Port Everglades from around the world.

Shutts partners DARIO PEREZ and ALEX TACHMES led our team in its recent selection to provide legal services to the School Board of Miami-Dade CountyDARIO is a Land Use litigator and ALEX is a former Assistant City Attorney in Miami Beach.

In Shutts’ Tallahassee office, BOBBY BRANTLEY, former Lt. Governor of Florida, was joined in 2006 in our Tallahassee office by JOHN HOLLEY, the former Chief of Staff and Deputy Secretary of Operations with at the Florida Department of Management Services.. 

In Orlando, partner KEN WRIGHT, recently completed his service as a member of the Environmental Regulation Commission, and was appointed by Governor Charlie Christ to serve on the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Partner JOE GOLDSTEIN, was recently appointed by the American Bar Association, Section of Public Contract Law to serve as Vice Chair for the State and Local Procurement Division.
