Since its establishment in 1910, Shutts & Bowen has taken great pride in its representation of the insurance industry. Currently, more than a dozen experienced trial and appellate lawyers are members of Shutts & Bowen’s Insurance Practice Group. Particular areas of experience include litigation relating to individual life, health and disability insurance policies, as well as issues arising under ERISA-controlled group policies. We represent insurers in state and federal trial and appellate courts throughout the state of Florida.
The firm also has significant experience in property and casualty insurance matters, providing both transactional and complex litigation representation. We have served as lead defense counsel in a number of high-profile insurance class action matters, and have assisted clients in liaising with state Attorneys General and state Departments of Insurance on regulatory and licensing issues.
We regularly conduct in-house training/educational seminars for our insurer clients on subjects important to the industry, including deposition and trial preparation for employees, detection and prevention of fraudulent insurance claims and recent developments and trends in Florida insurance law. Believing that insurer profitability begins with the prevention of litigation, we regularly speak industry gatherings, such as the annual meetings for the International Claims Association, Defense Research Institute, and the Eastern Claims Association.
