Mark P. Rankin joins Tampa Office

Mark P. Rankin has joined Shutts & Bowen as a Partner in its Business Litigation Group, announced R. Alan Higbee, Tampa’s Office Managing Partner.

Mr. Rankin’s practice includes government investigations and white collar criminal defense.  He has represented accountants, business owners, other professional individuals, and business entities in a wide range of matters, including mortgage fraud, accounting fraud, health care fraud, money laundering, regulatory enforcement, SEC investigations, and internal investigations.

Mr. Rankin formerly practiced law with Skadden Arps in Delaware and Carlton Fields in St. Petersburg, Florida.  He was an Assistant Federal Public Defender and Law Clerk for The Honorable Kenneth L. Ryskamp and The Honorable Ann E. Vitunac, Judges for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.   He received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1999 and a B.S. in Criminal Justice, magna cum laude, in 1996 from Old Dominion University.

As a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Mr. Rankin holds positions on the Board of Directors, White Collar Crime Committee and is a Co-Chair on the Sentencing Committee.  Mr. Rankin is a member of The Florida Bar where he served on the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit’s Grievance Committee from 2006 to 2009.  Since 2007, he has been a Chair of the Criminal Law Section of the Hillsborough County Bar Association.  He is a member of the Criminal Justice Act Panel for the Middle District of Florida.  He is a member of the Goldberg Criminal Inn of Court.
