Daniel Nordby, a civil litigator with deep experience in Florida government, has joined Shutts & Bowen LLP as a partner in its Tallahassee office. He is an experienced litigator whose practice has focused on high-profile, high-stakes matters of law and public policy.

Mr. Nordby most recently served as General Counsel to the Florida House of Representatives under Speaker Will Weatherford. He has also served as General Counsel to Florida’s Secretary of State and, in private practice, as outside General Counsel to the Republican Party of Florida. Mr. Nordby is the current Chair of The Florida Bar’s Administrative Law Section and is a member of the Florida Supreme Court Judicial Nominating Commission.

“Dan is a significant addition to our firm’s already powerful Tallahassee office,” said firmwide Managing Partner Michael “Micky” Grindstaff. “He has invaluable experience with Florida’s government and courts at many levels and deepens our firm’s statewide presence and institutional knowledge.”

Mr. Nordby, 36, joins partner Jason Gonzalez and former Lieutenant Governor Bobby Brantley in the firm’s Tallahassee office. Mr. Gonzalez, who also litigates and advises on government affairs, is former General Counsel to the Florida Governor. Mr. Brantley is Shutts & Bowen’s Government Law Consultant and is a former member of the Florida House of Representatives, Secretary of the Florida Department of Commerce, and Secretary of the Florida Lottery.

“This is a terrific opportunity to put years of Tallahassee experience and knowledge to work at a great firm with a long history and deep presence throughout the state,” Mr. Nordby said.

In his new position, Mr. Nordby assists clients with the resolution of complex legal issues before government agencies and the courts. He has represented clients on a range of issues, including the First Amendment; the Voting Rights Act; campaign finance and election law; governmental ethics; procurements and bid protests; agency rulemaking; professional licensure; and contract disputes.

Raised in Tallahassee, Mr. Nordby received both his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Florida. For a more complete biography on Mr. Nordby, please click here.
