Derrick Valkenburg Speaks at FICPA 2023 Construction Industry Conference

On Friday, November 10, 2023, Orlando partner Derrick Valkenburg discussed best practices, artificial intelligence and more while he served as a panelist during the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants (FICPA) 2023 Construction Industry Conference.

The panel presented during the “Best Practices in the Construction Industry” session. Derrick presented with co-panelists, Susan L. Reich (Vice President, Principal of Florida Surety Bonds, Inc.), Mary T. Richards (Principal of Kaufman, Rossin & Co, P.A.) and moderator Daniel Levine, CPA, CGC, CPA, CGC (President of High Road Construction, Inc.). During the presentation, the panel and attendees had an engaging dialogue about the effects of and best practices for implementing artificial intelligence in the accounting, construction, insurance and legal industries. They also exchanged thoughts for growing the talent pipeline, or lack thereof, within their respective fields.

The Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants serves as the association for CPAs and accounting professionals in the state of Florida. Founded in 1905, the FICPA continues to advance the accounting profession advocating on behalf of 18,500 members who actively work in public accounting, private industry, government or at educational institutions, making the FICPA one of the largest CPA organizations in the United States. There are currently 23 chapters within six geographical regions with each region represented by a director to help facilitate communication and voice advocacy concerns affecting their area. Derrick M. Valkenburg is a partner in Shutts & Bowen LLP's Orlando office, where he is a member of the Construction Litigation Practice Group.
