Now in its 43rd year, Leadership Miami is a program designed to develop the future leaders of South Florida. The program provides opportunities to meet Miami’s leaders, share learning experiences that focus on community issues, and create leadership skills through a planned process of seminars, lectures, small group discussions, leadership skills exercises, and team-driven community service projects. The program has worked to prepare the next generation of Miamians to address vital issues affecting Miami-Dade County.
Among all of the initiatives undertaken during the spring session (February through June 2022), Victoria’s and Damien’s community service project for Leadership Miami—which was awarded the Chamber’s “Project of the Year” distinction—benefitted the Linda Ray Intervention Center. The Center, opened in 1993, provides social services, medical care, and other assistance to young children at risk of disabilities and developmental delays due to prenatal drug exposure, maltreatment, or parents with limited parenting skills.
Through the efforts of Victoria, Damien, and their "Evolv3” Leadership Miami Team, they raised more than $80,000 in total funds, an amount that allowed Evolv3 to transform the Center’s outdoor and indoor spaces—new electrical fixtures, baseboards, furniture, playground equipment, privacy screens, paint, and more. The renewed Center, which held its ribbon cutting ceremony in recent weeks, is now poised to build upon its great work and increase its development of these infants’ and toddlers’ motor skills, learning opportunities, and educational enhancement.
