Arthur J. Furia, a prominent international business lawyer, has joined Shutts & Bowen as a partner in the Corporate Department, said Bowman Brown, Chairman of Shutts & Bowen’s Executive Committee.

Mr. Furia's areas of legal practice include: corporate and business law; domestic and international business planning; mergers and acquisitions; partnership formation and joint ventures; venture and mezzanine equity raising and distribution and licensing.
Mr. Furia serves as General Counsel to the National Italian American Foundation and serves on its Executive Committee and member of its Board of Directors. In addition, Furia serves as the Florida representative to the American Chamber of Commerce in Italy (AMCHAM) and past president of the Italy-America Chamber of Commerce (IACC) and is official legal counsel for the Italian Consulate and Italian Trade Commission in Southeast USA. In 2008, he was recognized as “Cavaliere Ufficiale” (The Order of Merit of the Republic of Italy). The title is among the highest accolades the Italian government bestows for contributions in the fields of literature, the economy, public service, social, philanthropic and humanitarian activities. He is a member of the American Society of the Italian Legions of Merit.
Mr. Furia was invested into the Association of Master Knights of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta since 1992, one of the Catholic Church’s highest honors for charitable and humanitarian work
Mr. Furia serves on the Executive Committee for Miami Dade College Foundation, and as a member of its Board of Directors. He serves on the Board of Governors of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, and Villanova University’s Marketing & Public Policy Advisory Board and its Executive Education in Italy Program Advisory Board. Mr. Furia has also served on the Board of Directors of the American Red Cross in South Florida, the Board of Trustees for St. Thomas University, and has lectured at the schools of law at the University of Miami and St. Thomas University and at the American University in Rome on legal and business aspects of cross-border business transactions. He is the founding board member for Biblioteca Ambrosiana Foundation (Milan) in the United States and has served on the Board of Directors of the New World Symphony and Florida Center for Theological Studies. He is founding chairman of the Board of the Primo Carnera Foundation.
Mr. Furia is a member of the Florida and Pennsylvania Bars, the American Bar Association Section of Corporation, Banking and Business Law, a member of The Florida Bar Section of Corporation, Banking and Business Law, and of its International Law Section. He is AV Rated by Martindale Hubbell and is listed in Best Lawyers in America 2008-2011 and Florida Super Lawyers 2007-2010. Mr. Furia was recognized recently in Florida Trend’s “Must Know Contacts” in Miami.
Mr. Furia has practiced law in Florida since 1980. A Philadelphia native, he received his Bachelor degree in Business Administration in 1974 and his law degree in 1980 from Villanova University. Before attending law school, he practiced for four years as a Certified Public Accountant with the international public accounting firm of Ernst & Young in its Philadelphia office.
