B. Travis Brown is an attorney in the Orlando office of Shutts & Bowen LLP, where he is a member of the Business Litigation Practice Group.

Travis’ practice is primarily focused on complex civil litigation matters, with an emphasis on disputes and investigations related to consumer protection, policy and government regulatory concerns. Travis combines his advocacy and regulatory experience to best represent his clients throughout a broad range of business and industry sectors, including technology, hospitality, telecommunications, financial services and automotive.

Travis is substantially experienced in the areas of:

  • Government investigations and regulation
  • Advertising and marketing compliance
  • Data privacy and security
  • Other unfair trade practice issues

Ever mindful of federal and state laws governing emerging technology and administrative procedure, Travis has also handled matters related to internet and social media advertising, search advertising, Section 230, HIPAA, state data breach laws, CCPA, GDPR and various regulations in the insurance, legal, tax relief and banking industries.

Travis leverages his experience advising state agencies on policy matters, statutes, rules and regulations and emerging consumer protection trends, so that he can better advocate for and serve his clients’ strategic business interests in federal and state courts. That strategy has also worked well for Travis and his clients when appearing before governmental and administrative agencies, and in settlement negotiations and mediations.

Travis is also experienced in the following areas:

  • Investigations related to healthcare advertising and treatment fraud
  • Deceptive or unfair health insurance products and misbranded supplements (for which he obtained FDA credentials to coordinate and share information with the FDA and the State of California to investigate a supplements provider)

Travis has served as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of the Tennessee, where he focused on consumer protection investigations, litigation and regulatory issues. While there, he founded and chaired a Blockchain Working Group that advised state agencies on blockchain technology and smart contracts, as well as numerous office-wide and cross-divisional boards and committees, including the CFPB’s American Consumer Financial Innovation Network, which focused on decreasing regulatory barriers on innovative financial services companies. While earning his degree at Belmont University College of Law, he served as a primary legal research assistant to former U.S. Attorney Gen. Alberto Gonzales, and was selected for a clerkship through the American Bar Association’s Janet D. Steiger Fellowship.
