Amy Wessel - Certified by the Florida Bar in Appellate PracticeShutts & Bowen is pleased to announce that Fort Lauderdale partner Amy Wessel has become Board Certified in Appellate Practice by the Florida Bar.

Board certification is the highest level of evaluation by the Florida Bar of the competence and experience of its attorneys in various practice areas. Through board certification, the Florida Bar recognizes an attorney’s special knowledge, skill, proficiency, professionalism, and ethics. To obtain her qualification as a board-certified appellate specialist, Amy was required to demonstrate substantial involvement in the area of appellate law, pass a written examination specific to state and federal appeals, and satisfy a peer review assessment by both judges and lawyers regarding her competence and professionalism.

Amy is one of only 205 attorneys — out of over 100,000 attorneys licensed to practice law in Florida — who has achieved board certification in appellate practice. Only 7% of Florida attorneys have met the standards prescribed by the Supreme Court of Florida to achieve board certification in one of the Bar’s 27 specialty areas.

Amy represents clients in a wide range of appellate and litigation matters involving commercial disputes, business torts, real-property litigation, and premises liability. She also provides pre-trial and trial support to litigators, assisting in the development of legal arguments and ensuring that all steps necessary to preserve issues for appellate review are taken.  Amy has been recognized as a Rising Star in Appellate Law by Florida Super Lawyers in 2019 and 2020. Prior to joining the firm, Amy served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Jay P. Cohen at the Florida Fifth District Court of Appeal.
