Tampa partner Ella Shenhav was recently interviewed by the Daily Business Review regarding a recent class action lawsuit and the surge in data breach litigation across Florida.

The class action case in question regards a $5 million lawsuit following a data breach involving the theft of personal identifying information of 35,000 members from the nation’s largest donor and volunteer-supported mentoring network. The data breach, dating back to March 2023, is significant because the compromised information is highly sought after by criminal parties who seek to illegally monetize the information.

“This lawsuit emphasizes how important it is for companies to be on their toes at all times when it comes to cybersecurity, privacy and data protection,” said Ella. “These lawsuits, when we are talking about large companies, often end up in settlements in the tens of millions of dollars.”
