Our 2025 Summer Associate Program brought 11 law students from nine law schools to the firm for an intellectually challenging and professionally gratifying experience. The students took part in firm-sponsored social events and community service projects throughout the summer in addition to attending client meetings, depositions, court hearings and other proceedings. Nearing the end of the program, the students agreed to share a few highlights from their summer at Shutts.

Christy Vogelsang joined Shutts’ West Palm Beach office for the summer from Boston University School of Law. Christy is an editor of the Public Interest Law Journal, wellness chair of the Women’s Law Association, and a volunteer of Greater Boston Legal Services. In 2024, she also served as an intern for the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit Court.

Christy shares her thoughts on her summer experience at Shutts.

Why did you choose to spend your 2025 Summer with Shutts?

I chose to spend my summer with Shutts because I was certain of a few things: I knew I wanted return to Florida, I was looking for a firm with a strong reputation, and I wanted to be at a mid-sized firm. From my first interview, I felt connected with the attorneys in the West Palm Beach office. They were not only smart and driven attorneys, but also people I could see myself working alongside and building real friendships with. For me, Shutts felt like the “Goldilocks” firm. It was not too big, not too small, but just right.

What is something new that you learned during the summer program?

I learned so much this summer, it is hard to put it all into words. I gained experience with irrevocable trusts, horse liens, discovery sanctions, settlement agreements, insurance broker responsibilities, employment contracts, lease amendments, and easements (among many other topics). Just as importantly, I learned how to prioritize tasks, build professional relationships, advocate for myself, and grow into the type of lawyer I want to be.

What do you have planned for the rest of the summer?

For the rest of summer, I plan on visiting friends in Texas and other parts of Florida while also studying for the MPRE. On top of that, I hope to check some things off my personal to-do list that have been lingering like finalizing my class schedule for next semester, taking some golf lessons, finishing a couple of books (Mistborn, Outlive, and The Wedding People), and wrapping up some wedding planning.
