Our 2025 Summer Associate Program brought 11 law students from nine law schools to the firm for an intellectually challenging and professionally gratifying experience. The students took part in firm-sponsored social events and community service projects throughout the summer in addition to attending client meetings, depositions, court hearings and other proceedings. Nearing the end of the program, the students agreed to share a few highlights from their summer at Shutts.
Joseph M. Korzeb joined Shutts’ Miami office for the summer from the University of Miami School of Law. Joseph is a member of the International Moot Court Program.
Joseph shares his thoughts on his summer experience at Shutts.
What is something new that you learned during the summer program?
I learned that AI can be extremely helpful when used in a targeted manner and then checked for accuracy. It’s an excellent starting point for research, but not a perfect tool or a ‘catch all.’ Using it this summer under the firm’s guardrails and training has turned me from a skeptic to a believer of AI’s potential for improving work efficiency.
What advice would you give to someone about to start the OCI process?
I would advise that person to ask both interesting and tough questions in his or her interview. While in law school, it is hard to distinguish between different firms, and your interview is the best opportunity to do that. Know the type of work your interviewers focus on and ask substantive questions about that work. Ask tough questions about the firm’s attitude toward pro bono, learning opportunities, and life as a junior associate.
What do you have planned for the rest of the summer?
I’m planning to study for the MPRE and then take the exam in August.
