Shutts & Bowen LLP Orlando partner Derrick M. Valkenburg recently presented on “Construction Law for Brokers” to the Commercial Investment Council of the Space Coast Association of Realtors®. The presentation took place in Brevard County on October 7, focusing on hot topics in construction law as they relate to commercial brokers.

Derrick was the featured guest speaker at the meeting and spoke to the group about troubleshooting construction liens, as well as construction issues that sometimes arise during transactional due diligence. The presentation began with introductions from Shutts partner Michael Sjuggerud, a long-time business partner member of the Space Coast Association of Realtors®.

With a membership base of over 4,500 realtors, the Space Coast Association of Realtors® is a professional trade association providing services to Brevard County and the local community since 1959.

Derrick M. Valkenburg is a partner in Shutts & Bowen LLP’s Orlando office, where he is a member of the Construction Litigation Practice Group. Derrick’s practice focuses on construction, commercial and real property litigation. He often represents developers, contractors, material suppliers, and design professionals in disputes involving construction defect claims, delay claims, construction lien issues, contract disputes, and insurance coverage issues. Derrick also represents clients in the areas of commercial landlord-tenant disputes, real property litigation, insurance litigation, employment law, probate and trust litigation, and e-discovery.
