Shutts & Bowen is proud to support Kenya Relief, an American charitable organization responsible for operating a health clinic, school and orphanage in a remote part of Kenya.

Al LaSorte, a partner in Shutts & Bowen's West Palm Beach office, discovered Brittney’s Home of Grace, a house of refuge and healing to more than 100 orphans in Migori in West Kenya, run by www.kenyarelief.org.

Now the children of Home of Grace will have a fresh opportunity to connect with the world. When the new school opens in January, the children will  connect to the world instantly via Internet, satellite, WiFi and computer, thanks to donations of time, skill and laptop computers from Shutts & Bowen.

Omar Blanco, a member of Shutts & Bowen's technology services group, flew from Miami to Nairobi and, in late July and early August, joined a group of 19 professionals and volunteers from South Florida. He created a WiFi satellite connection and system for the new school, still under construction, and adjacent medical clinic. Shutts & Bowen donated 100 two-year-old computers to Kenya Relief, which put them to work in the school, effectively giving one computer for each child.

“It means a lot that the law firm was so eager to go out of its way to help,” said LaSorte, who recently returned from a sojourn in Kenya, where he helped build the school. “The Home of Grace is really amazing. It’s on a 60-acre compound that includes a residence and a medical clinic. They rotate doctors from America. An eye surgeon does corneal transplants. A general surgeon works with cleft palates. A dentist comes and handles severe impactions and infections. Some people are 50 or 60 years old and have never seen a dentist.”
