Eric Reed and Stefan Rubin, partners in Shutts & Bowen LLP’s Orlando office, recently participated as speakers at the Orange County Bar Association’s 2020 Bench Bar Conference, a distance learning event.

Serving as a moderator at the 10 am session, Eric led the discussion on “Judicial Biases & Recusals,” with the Honorable Elizabeth Starr, Honorable Bob LeBlanc and Honorable Gisela Laurent. He served in the same role for a later session, moderating the 1:40 pm program titled, “Chapter 607: The New and Improved Florida Business Corporation Act.” The Chapter 607 session featured speakers Stefan Rubin and the Honorable Lisa Munyon. During his presentation, Stefan discussed recent changes to Chapter 607 of the Florida Statutes (FBCA) – the most comprehensive revisions to Florida’s corporate laws since 1989.

The 2020 Bench Bar Conference featured more than fifty advanced placement CLE sessions on the topics of appellate practice, business law, criminal law, trusts and estates, employment law, family law, personal injury/insurance law and practice management. The online conference took place on October 2nd and featured members of the Judiciary from Orange, Osceola and Seminole Counties, as well as esteemed judges from the federal branch.

About Eric Reed

Eric C. Reed is a partner in the Orlando office of Shutts & Bowen LLP, where he is a member of the Business Litigation Practice Group. Eric combines his trial experience and communications skills in disputes involving commercial litigation, construction litigation, commercial landlord/tenant litigation, commercial and consumer collections and replevins, mortgage and lien foreclosures, and general lender representation. He has extensive experience in matters related to creditors’ rights, as well as contested foreclosure litigation and consumer finance litigation. Currently, Eric serves as President-Elect of the Orange County Bar Association. He also serves as a board member of the Orange County Bar Association Legal Aid Society, the Orange County Bar Foundation and he previously chaired the Orange County Bar Association Judicial Relations Committee.

About Stefan Rubin

Stefan A. Rubin is a partner in the Orlando office of Shutts & Bowen LLP, where he is a member of the Corporate Practice Group. A Florida Certified Public Accountant and Martindale-Hubbell AV® attorney, Stefan concentrates his practice in general corporate representation, securities, mergers and acquisitions, and debt and equity financing. Stefan assists clients in structuring, negotiating and documenting their business transactions. He regularly helps clients negotiate shareholders agreements, LLC operating agreements, partnership agreements and joint venture agreements. He assists clients with business issues, from strategic business relationships and distribution arrangements to employment, confidentiality, noncompetition and intellectual property licensing. He also assists buyers and sellers in the disposition of businesses, and facilitates small and mid-cap companies with obtaining debt and private placements of equity in the U.S. and internationally. Stefan has been an active member of The Florida Bar’s Business Law Section (BLS), where he serves on the Section’s Executive Council and assists with statutory changes to Florida’s business entity laws.
