In January, Shutts & Bowen’s Insurance Practice Group Chair John Meagher led a team of attorneys to a successful verdict in Florida’s first federal civil jury trial to be conducted entirely online via Zoom, with all parties, including counsel, judges, witnesses and jury members, successfully completing the “virtual” proceedings.
John spoke with Law360 Pulse about his experience working the trial, some challenges he and the team faced, security protocols required for a fully-virtual trial experience, and the increased accessibility to the Courts provided by virtual proceedings.
“There were no disasters. The issues were fixed pretty calmly, because the court really knew what it was doing and what it wanted, controlling things excellently,” said John.
