Six Law Students Welcomed to Shutts as Winter Clerks

Winter Clerks 2021Shutts & Bowen is pleased to welcome six law students who have joined the firm for an 8-week Clerkship Program. The firm’s program, which normally takes place during the summer, was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Shutts’ Clerkship Program is designed to provide an intellectually challenging and professionally gratifying experience for law students. The program allows students to be exposed to all practice areas with the opportunity to delve into the different aspects of our legal services. Our clerks are paired with junior and senior mentors within the firm to offer insights into the firm’s history and culture and gain an accurate sense of day-to-day activity at a nationally-recognized, top-ranked law firm.

This year’s Winter Clerks are listed below:

Xin Ai – Orlando – Xin joins us from the Washington University School of Law, where she is a member of the Women of Color Law Society and the China Law Society. Her previous experience includes an internship at the Bureau of Consumer Frauds & Protection for the New York State Office of the Attorney General. She is expected to graduate in 2021.   

Fernando A. Bolaños – Miami – Fernando joins us from the University of Miami School of Law. Fernando’s previous experience includes an internship at a regional law firm in Miami and a Judicial Internship with the Honorable John O’Sullivan in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. He is expected to graduate in 2021.

Raymond L. Cordova – Fort Lauderdale – Raymond joins us from the University of Notre Dame Law School, where he is Managing Senior Editor of the Notre Dame Journal of Law, Ethics & Public Policy. Raymond was previously an Extern for Magistrate Judge Michael G. Gotsch, Sr. with the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana. He was also an intern for Judge Alan Orantes Forst in the Florida Fourth District Court of Appeal. Raymond is expected to graduate in 2021.  

Devon A. Hoffman – Miami – Devon joins us from the Florida International University College of Law, where she is President of the Employment & Labor Law Society, a member of the Moot Court, a member of the Negotiation & Mediation Team and Articles Editor of the FIU Law Review. She has previously served as a research assistant on the topic of employment discrimination. Devon has also served as a Judicial Intern to the Honorable Robin S. Rosenbaum of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and to the Honorable Ivan F. Fernandez of the Florida Third District Court of Appeals. She is expected to graduate in 2021.

Austin D. Hogan – Orlando – Austin joins us from the University of Florida Levin College of Law. His previous experience includes a Summer Law Clerk position with the Honorable Steven M. Fahlgren of the 4th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida. Austin graduated in December 2020. 

Kendall Ryant – West Palm Beach – Kendall joins us from the University of Florida Levin College of Law, where she is Editor of the Florida Law Review and previously served as the 1L Representative for the Real Property Law Association. Her previous experience as a Law Clerk included research of the Florida Assignment of Benefits legislation and its effect on insurance laws. She is expected to graduate in 2021.
