Shutts & Bowen LLP is pleased to announce that David O. Batista and Sara Levy have joined the firm’s Insurance Practice Group as partners in its Fort Lauderdale office.
“David and Sara bring an in-depth knowledge of the insurance industry and years of proven litigation experience to our firm,” said Joseph M. Goldstein, Managing Partner of Shutts & Bowen LLP’s Fort Lauderdale office. “We are excited to have them on board and for both of them to help expand the offerings of our Insurance and Litigation Practice Groups.”
Batista is an accomplished trial lawyer with more than 20 years of experience in complex commercial litigation, including insurance, business torts, class actions, construction, financial services, corporate, shareholder and partnership disputes, and products liability cases. He has served as lead trial counsel in high-damage federal and state jury trials and arbitrations. David is well regarded for implementing winning strategies that are both cost-effective and aligned with his client’s business interests.
“Shutts & Bowen is an exceptional firm with a great platform that aligns perfectly with our practice,” said Batista. “The move to Shutts was a terrific opportunity to boost our litigation practice and benefit our clients.”
Batista has been listed as one of “The Best Lawyers in America” for Commercial Litigation since 2013, and was part of The American Lawyer’s 2018 “Products Liability Litigation Department of the Year.” He is admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Southern, Middle and Northern Districts of Florida, as well as the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
He received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Michigan State University College of Law.

Levy counsels clients on a wide array of matters involving commercial transactions, class actions, securities litigation, real estate litigation, labor and employment litigation and product liability matters.
