Shutts Tampa Attorneys to Present During the HCBA's Appellate Section Luncheon

Tampa attorneys Garrett Tozier, Alyssa Cory and Elise Engle will present during the Hillsborough County Bar Association’s Appellate Section Luncheon on April 3, 2024.

Garrett, Alyssa and Elise will present the CLE course, titled “Navigating Newly Appealable Nonfinal Orders,” at the Chester H. Ferguson Law Center during the Appellate Section’s monthly luncheon. During the presentation, the attorneys will discuss new categories of nonfinal appeals in Florida state appellate courts, trial court considerations in preparation of nonfinal appeals, stays of trial court litigation during the pendency of nonfinal appeals, and procedural distinctions form final appeals. About Garett A. Tozier

Garrett A. Tozier is a partner in the Tampa office of Shutts & Bowen LLP, where he is a member of the Appellate practice group.  Garrett represents clients in a wide range of civil appellate proceedings before the Florida district courts of appeal, the Florida Supreme Court, and the United States Courts of Appeal for the Eleventh and Federal Circuits. Garrett also provides pre-trial and trial support to litigators, by developing legal arguments and ensuring adequate preservation of error in anticipation of appellate review.  Prior to joining Shutts, Garrett clerked for the Honorable Susan H. Rothstein-Youakim at the Florida Second District Court of Appeal. He also previously served as a Central Staff Attorney at the Florida Second District Court of Appeal, where he gained extensive experience in appellate jurisdictional matters, appellate motion practice, and original proceedings.

About Alyssa L. Cory

Alyssa L. Cory is a Partner in the Tampa office of Shutts & Bowen LLP, where she is a member of the Appellate Practice Group. Alyssa handles appeals and civil litigation support in federal and state courts covering complex commercial and business appeals. She currently serves on The Florida Bar Appellate Court Rules Committee and brings a wealth of knowledge to her appellate practice from her previous experience as a staff attorney at both the Florida Supreme Court (Honorable Ricky Polston) and Florida’s First District Court of Appeal (Honorable Thomas D. Winokur).

About Elise M. Engle

Elise M. Engle is an attorney in the Tampa office of Shutts & Bowen LLP, where she is a member of the Appellate Practice Group. Elise focuses her practice on civil appeals, civil litigation in both state and federal courts, political law, and constitutional law. Before joining Shutts, she served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Jamie R. Grosshans at the Florida Supreme Court, following a clerkship with the Honorable John L. Badalamenti at the United States District Court, Middle District of Florida. During law school, she served as a judicial extern for Judge Badalamenti at Florida’s Second District Court of Appeal.
