Nicholas Meros Speaks at Florida Chamber Foundation’s 40th Annual Environmental Permitting Conference

Nicholas Meros, a partner in Shutts & Bowen LLP’s Tallahassee office, recently spoke on a panel during the Florida Chamber Foundation’s 40th Annual Environmental Permitting Summer School Conference, held July 21-24 at the JW Marriott Marco Island Beach Resort.

Nick spoke on the “Emerging Issues in Pollution Liability and Technological Innovations” panel. He discussed recent litigation under Florida’s Pollutant Discharge Prevention and Control Act (Chapter 376, Florida Statutes), the Florida Air and Water Pollution Control Act (Chapter 403, Florida Statutes), and CERCLA, as well as future trends in pollution liability, including Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS), microplastics, and other hazardous substances. Panelists also discussed the State of Florida’s regulation of soils and water quality, legal and technical developments affecting pollution liability, and the impacts on both property owners and facility operators.

Founded in 1968, the Florida Chamber Foundation is a business-led, solutions development and research organization, working in partnership with state business leaders to secure Florida’s future. The Florida Environmental Network, Inc. (FENI) is part of the Foundation’s ongoing efforts to keep members and organizations informed of environmental and growth management laws and regulations. Each year FENI produces the popular ‘Summer School’ Conference to engage with engineers, attorneys, consultants, state and local government officials, developers, landowners and others with a strong interest in environmental issues in Florida. The Environmental ‘Summer School’ Conference featured over 70 courses throughout the event and offered continuing education credits to legal professionals, engineers and licensed environmental professionals.
